A beacon of truth and love, creating a resonance that brings us together.

About me

About Me

London-based Japanese performer, artist, and actor.

My artistic journey began in childhood with classic ballet, piano and acting, later expanding through contemporary dance at the University of Tsukuba, where I graduated in 2013 from the Dance Studies Laboratory in the School of Health and Physical Education at the University of Tsukuba in 2013. Following my nomadic spirit, I backpacked through the Middle East, spent five years working as a cabaret  dancer in Turkey, two years as a circus artist in Moldova and Germany, and was working in Brazil when the 2020 pandemic began. I relocated to London in 2021.

Across a wide spectrum of physical arts—including Butoh, clowning, acting, circus, my expression— is deeply rooted in my innate sensitivity. As a highly sensitive person, I perceive unseen energies and subtle vibrations that often make navigating conventional society challenging. Rather than suppressing this sensitivity, I honor it as my rawest truth, weaving it into immersive, physical performances that transcend the material realm.

Stage credits/Rebel Sparks “Take Flight”, Miss highleg kick “Lady Garden”, Bitten Peach, The RR club, Cabaret Carnival, Circus Zyair, Brainfools “Stella’s Imaginarium”, “Lucky Pigeons”, Circus Roncalli, and so on.

Concept of my performance

My art is for my fellow souls those who tune into unseen vibrations and feel their trueself, yet fight to survive within the machinery modern society with rough, reckless and numb creatures. — a gentle signal for kindred spirits to find one another and naturally build a sanctuary where we can stop suppressing who we are, breath and simply exist.

And for those whose senses have grown numb— who have lost touch with their innate perception, emotions, and subtle instincts —and still in interested in my art works—----I perform to stir your body, calling back the raw emotional and physical power that has always been yours.

Many of us had no choice but to numb and silence our senses in order to get by in this world. I am committed, with everything I have, to a world where we can live with our honest senses intact, safe from having our spirits threatened, invaded, exploited or controlled by anyone.

Butoh x clowning solo show

DOGMA plan b -about Beaty-

Even with an asymmetrical face and proportions far removed from those of a Paris runway model, it is still possible to evoke a sense of beauty. This raises fundamental questions: What, truly, is beauty? Is the conventional image of beauty―ingrained in us through media and social norms―authentic? Is beauty something that can be seen with the eyes, or does it transcend the visible?

This work is a personal exploration in which I, Rika Fujimoto, challenge the fixed concept of beauty through an expressive language that arises from within―beyond material reality through a wide range of expressive forms including Butoh, live music, clowning.

The audience will be moved by delicate yet powerful, surreal and avant-garde expressions - laughing at the courage to connect with their true selves.

Butoh x Aertial straps (under R and D)

Esse: Bones in full abundance (working title)

I am creating a performance that combines Butoh and aerial straps.

Esse (working title), about the strength and beauty of the living body when it accepts that simply being here. Yet many of us hand our worth to others' approval, and unhealed pain is passed from person to person, while technology pulls us further from our bodies. The work confronts this hidden crisis and asks whether Butoh can exist in the air.

In performance, I access the vibration of my higher self and let it flow into the space, so that audiences can feel it within one shared time and place.

This work is for kindred spirits: those whose sensitivity makes modern life hard, and those who, to survive in society, have numbed the senses that are truly theirs. the audience feels the energy of a body simply existing, and is invited to their own physical senses and instincts.
